Bourbon and Fig Jam with Orange Liqueur Cocktail

I love cocktails that use jam and this Bourbon and Fig Jam with Orange Liqueur Cocktail is no exception. The combination of bourbon, fig jam, orange, lemon, and honey is perfect for the cooler months of the year!

Bourbon and Fig Jam Cocktail with Orange Liqueur Served in a Lowball Glass

I had hoped to publish this Bourbon and Fig Jam with Orange Liqueur Cocktail earlier today; I always try to shoot for early morning so everyone on my mailing list gets the chance to see a new cocktail for the weekend. And this is one you will love too.

Instead of cocktail making though, yesterday I escaped for the day, the first day out in weeks since dealing with a back injury. I was ready and had a long list of places I wanted to go and people I wanted to see…but no cocktail making I’m afraid. So while a bit late, hope I’m forgiven; this might be a great weekend for such a warming and delicious drink.

We’re still completely in winter mode in Colorado and will be for another two months. Sure, we’ll have glimpses of Spring but while most of the world will be exclaiming over their spring bulbs and flowers, chances are we’ll be seeing a late winter blizzard at 6,200′.

I moved to Colorado from North Carolina after growing up in the Midwest; I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the seasons here; no matter how long I’ve been here, I still want to plant tomatoes in April…but have to wait until June. I’ll bide my time and luckily enjoy cocktail making enough to find pleasure in that exercise when I can’t be outside putting my hands in dirt!

I’ve used Jam in other cocktails; it’s a great way to include a taste when the fruit is either out of season or you’re like me…finding figs in Colorado is almost impossible. When I do spot some, they are never that great; so I’m come to rely on Fig jam for my needs. It’s nice that you can make some cocktails using fruits with short seasons, cherry jam is another that comes to mind.

Bourbon and Fig Cocktail with Orange Liqueur Served in a Glass with an Orange Twist

This Bourbon and Fig Jam with Orange Liqueur Cocktail is a great fit for this time of year with the bourbon forward taste more typical in winter drinks combined with the combination of figs, orange, and some lemon too that lightens it perfectly.

I was the recipient of a set of gorgeous cocktail glasses with a matching decanter and have been contemplating for a couple of weeks about what cocktail deserved them…and this one was a good choice. Like most of my bourbon cocktails; the ingredients are not difficult to source and you don’t have to spend hours making a specialty mix of anything to get it done. This cocktail has only a few simple ingredients, including (full recipe at bottom of page):

  • 2 Tablespoons fig jam
  • 3 ounces bourbon
  • 1/2 ounce orange liqueur
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • Orange twist for garnish

The only item that might be difficult to find would be the fig jam and you can order it online if that’s the case! It’s also great used with these Fig Jam and Brie Crostini Appetizers as well as one of my favorite grilled cheese sandwiches, a Brie, Apple, and Fig Grilled Cheese.

Drinks like this are sippers; they call for a fire and great conversation and are not to be downed quickly. It’s all about the ambiance and these beautiful glasses certainly elevated ours.

  1. Fun to photograph nice glassware, isn’t it? And what a perfect drink for those glasses! This is perfect for our weather — we have some snow on the ground, although it’s supposed to get warmer this weekend. Supposed to. 🙂 Great cocktail — thanks.

    1. It is; I love taking cocktail photos the most…love me some sparkle and shine (just not too much reflection!). This is perfect for us too; some nice days are starting but still cold nights and of course in Colorado I’m sure we still have at least one blizzard left for us too. I struggle a bit this time of year seeing Spring in all my feeds…while we still have winter. I wouldn’t change it because I love low humidity in summer but I should do Spring somewhere else I think. 🙂
